Penara Labrador Retrievers

Our Story

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to visit with us. The Naranjo family (Gumi, Pam, Quinn and Ethan) is owned and loved by some wonderful labrador retrievers. My name is Pam and I am fortunate enough to be the "Mom" to the kids, and dogs. We purchased our first Labrador 14 years ago, and have been enjoying them ever since.

After major health problems in the first labradors that joined our family, we quickly learned the importance of breeding for health. We dealt at length with hip dysplasia, osteochondrosis and juvenile cataracts, not in what we bred, but in the first dogs we purchased from various pedigrees. We are lucky to have the wonderful pedigrees that we have at this time, and would like to thank all the breeders responsible for making these sweet and healthy labradors possible.

We are located in Minburn, Iowa 35 miles from Des Moines. We have a 4 bedroom farm house on 5 acres with a large barn. We moved to Iowa in May of 2005. I graduated from Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine as a DVM in May of 2002. We moved to Missouri for 3 years after spending my vet school years in Boone, Iowa. Prior to living in Boone, we spent many years in Muscatine, Iowa, where I did all my undergraduate school work at Eastern Iowa Community College. We have many wonderful friends and mentors there.

Our labradors are all raised as house dogs, enjoying time with the family, socializing and being lazy. They are mellow, easy to train and enjoyable companions. For that reason, I feel very strongly about placing all but a very select few of our puppies in pet homes, where they can also enjoy the life that every labrador desires and deserves.

Checkers (Ridge View Checkered Flag) is our foundation to the healthy, beautiful Labrador Retrievers we've been blessed with. She also has her CGC title. Checkers is retired and lives the life of luxury with a good friend from vet school, Kim. Checkers was born in August of 1995. She is the dam to 2 show champions, the grand-dam to 1 champion and has many other show pointed progeny. She is also the dam and grand-dam to certified service dogs, an arson dog and guide dogs. She produces incredible quality labradors with the happy, easy going attitude of their mother.

We have donated puppies and young adults to Leader Dogs for the Blind in Michigan. We have several in training there as guide dogs, one graduate and several placed into their breeding program to produce future generations of guide dogs. Our Dexter has donated his services at stud to Noah's Assistance Dogs in Nebraska to help them in developing a line of healthy service oriented dogs for both guide work and assistance dogs.
Thank you for visiting my website, and enjoying my labradors. Stop back soon!
